ELECTRONIC RESERVES : INFORMATION FOR FACULTY

Electronic reserves offer students on or off campus an efficient and convenient way to obtain supplemental course materials 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The library is able to support two methods of providing electronic reserve materials-either through SHARC (the Library catalog) or through Blackboard.

Blackboard technology is an attractive alternative or addition to using SHARC electronic reserves. Blackboard helps to centralize class resources, making it easy for students to locate their electronic reserve materials, and giving faculty more control over their electronic readings.

To initiate electronic reserves:
Complete the online reserve request form for articles or use the paper form that is available from the Circulation Dept. Gathering your own reserve books or providing us with photocopies helps to expedite the process. The better the copy you provide us, the better the electronic PDF versions will be. Therefore, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines when submitting photocopies:

• clean and precise, a first-generation copy if possible
• single-sided
• at least 10 point print
• have top, side and bottom margins of at least 1/2 inch
• have pages oriented in the same direction on 8-1/2" x 11" paper
• include on the first page of each article the full citation, your name, the course number and your extension

To initiate Library Blackboard support:
If you do not currently have a Blackboard account, contact your college Blackboard administrator - Jessica Sullivan at Loyola, x2199 and Archana Bhandari at CND, x3154. When this is in place, complete the article request form and specify Blackboard support.

Note for Loyola Faculty concerning Blackboard Changes:
Starting in 2005, the Library will no longer add materials directly to your Blackboard course. The library will instead utilize an eReserves area in the new Blackboard Content System. You or your Teaching Assistant will be responsible for linking the newly added material to your course. Instructions here.
